OVERVIEW
Guard Dog is designed to protect user's privacy when using Internet related programs. It runs as a service and functions in the background to monitor all Internet related activity. It enables the user to selectively keep Internet related programs from performing functions that intrude on the user's privacy. It monitors events such as programs accessing the Internet, accessing a history of user actions, and attempts to access computer password files.
When Guard Dog encounters suspicious activity, it displays a popup window that describes which program is initiating the activity and what it is trying to do. The popup window also recommends what action the user should take.
An anti-virus module is also included with this program. It checks your hard drive upon startup and checks uploaded and downloaded files as well.
Installation and operation of the program are simple. No operational problems were noted during the testing period.
STRONG POINTS
Does not slow down or interfere with normal browsing and e-mail activities.
Very simple to operate.
Traps many different types of suspicious activity including unintended Internet access, computer password sniffing, and undesired file upload and download.
Easily understood user interface.
WEAK POINTS
May lead to a false sense of confidence.
COMMENTS
For those concerned about their privacy or security when using Internet, this program will provide some measure of confidence. The package performs well and can be updated automatically via the web.
