OVERVIEW
Windrenalin is a Windows 95 software enhancement that improves hard disk drive performance. Installation is fairly simple with an installation wizard handling many of the chores.
The manufacturer states that the program will launch programs and multi-task faster when installed. They provide several examples of standard applications and the performance enhancement associated with adding Windrenalin.
The software actually does dramatically improve overall system performance under some circumstances. It appears that the rate of performance increase is directly tied to the type and speed of the CPU in the computer. Faster systems that utilize modern pentium class technology appear to get the most benefit from this package, while performance enhancement for 486 class systems appears marginal. This is consistent with the manufacturer’s claims.
There is virtually no documentation included with the software, although installation and operation are so simple that this should not be a major problem for most users.
It appears that this version is reliable and stable with no noted problems, either on standard or compressed hard disk systems. I noted that the program only will accelerate 16 and 32 bit local windows applications, while DOS applications running under Windows 95 do not seem to take advantage of the software. Programs that have been accelerated have a small crystal symbol shown associated with their launch icon.
If desired, it is extremely easy to remove this product from your system. De-installing the software takes about one minute.
STRONG POINTS
Good price for performance gain - Windrenalin is attractively priced considering some programs load more than 100% faster and overall system performance is enhanced.
Easy to use and understand - You don’t have to be a mental giant to install and use the program.
WEAK POINTS
Lack of documentation - Some users still prefer to have a written manual. All that is provided is a small instruction card attached to the program registration card.
Uninstalling - Some Windows 95 system shortcuts may not function propely once the program is unistalled.
Few program features - The program really accomplishes one function; speeding up the hard disk drive. The only features are:
