Battle of Britain is a mostly historically
accurate account of the air battle over England at the start of the Second World
War. This movie includes a number of superstar actors from years past including
Trevor Howard, Michael Caine, and Curt Jurgens.
At
the start of the Second World War, England and her commonwealth allies stood
alone against the onslaught of the Nazi war machine. Subsequent to the Nazi
victory in France, England was given the choice to end resistance against the
Nazis or fight to the death. After a short respite, the Nazis began a bombing
campaign against military and civilian targets in an effort to force the capitulation
of the British empire. Battle of Britain is the engrossing tale of that struggle.
The action scenes in this movie are interesting to watch since the actual aircraft
used in the battle were still available for use at the time this movie was filmed.
A wide variety and number of planes are depicted including the Hurricane, Spitfire,
Messerschmidt and Heinkel. Those viewers familiar with computer animated actions
scenes in more recent war movies will be surprised to see actual combat stunts
using the original aircraft. The combat scenes are lively, well choreographed
and believable.
Battle of Britian is an average length movie at about two hours in length. From
an authenticity viewpoint, this movie depicts the key players on both sides
of the conflict fairly while also entertaining the viewer. This movie is a worthwhile
addition to your movie library.
