Providing over ten hours of real-life
video, Crusade in the Pacific covers the Pacific campaign during World War Two
from the rise of Japanese influence through the final surrender. This is a five-disk
DVD boxed set.
Each
DVD in this series contains four one-half hour features covering a particular
phase of the war. Some of the major battles it covers include the Philippines,
Solomons, Marianas, China, Burma, Guadalcanal, and the Aleutians. Every segment
is comprised of original battle footage in black and white, with maps and drawings
interspersed as necessary to show the flow of the battle. The video clips used
have origins with both the Japanese and Allied powers, and they include scenes
from the battle at sea, on land, and the air campaign.
The best feature of this series is the extensive amount of actual combat footage
used. Much of each half-hour segment is dedicated to video clips of the actual
battle as it occurs, with the narrator explaining the action. Also included
on each DVD are additional features. These include maps, timelines, written
discussions, and still photographs.
History buffs will love the extension video footage with this series, collected
during and after the Second World War. One really gets a feel for the miserable
conditions under which this war was fought, and the extra features are extensive
and historically relevant.
