Kung Fu Workout introduces the viewer to martial
arts style stretching and workout routines. Hosted by David Carradine, the star
of the famous TV series Kung Fu, this workout video steps the user through a
variety of exercises consistent with Kung Fu philosophy.
David
Carradine explains the purpose of the exercises that are involved, and tells
about the proper mindset to get the fullest benefit from each technique. A number
of students are shown behind him performing the exercises in unison with him.
Along the way, highlights of various Kung Fu styles are demonstrated by various
students.
Although the name of this workout and its star seem to indicate that it would
be outstanding, a number of the scenes seem staged and stiff. Although I found
the stretching portion of the video highly informative (since Kung Fu is not
my martial arts style), the balance of the exercises were not exciting to me
and I quickly lost interest. None of the charisma David Carradine showed in
the TV series was transferred to this workout video, and the result was a boring
production with none of the energy of a Billy Blanks video.
Those looking to add to their repertoire of martial arts stretching will find
this video informative, although a number of books exist that might meet this
need as well. From a motivational standpoint, I thought this video lacked the
excitement necessary for a daily constitutional.
