Featuring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis, Operation Petticoat is one of a series of movies Cary Grant made during the 1950's. In this episode, the crew of an American submarine tries to leave the Philippines at the start of the Second World War with their battle-scarred submarine to reach a friendly port. Fighting both the Japanese and a lack of spare parts, the boat gets unexpected help when Lt. Holden (Tony Curtis) reports aboard as a replacement member of the crew.

Operation PetticoatLt. Holden uses a variety of maneuvers to obtain the parts the ship needs to sail, landing him in hot water with just about everybody . Landing along the coast of the Philippines, the crew takes on some unexpected passengers; Army nurses that have been left behind by a transport plane. From this point on, unexpected and wacky things start happening.

The only disappointment with this video is the lack of special features on the DVD. You pretty much get the movie and that's it. It might have been nicer had there been some biographies of the stars or additional information about the movie.

The variety of events that Lt Holden gets himself and the crew in make this movie pretty funny. Although not rated, the content of this movie makes it a family movie appropriate for children of all ages. Long on story, but short on historical accuracy, the submarine scenes in this movie are interesting to watch with a set similar to an actual U.S. submarine. At least you can sit around the house and watch this one with the kids.
