The Complete Idiot's Guide to Intermediate Spanish is a soft cover book for intermediate students of the Spanish language. This course does not include an audio CD.
Much like several other books of this genre, this work presents extensive information about Latin American and Spanish culture. Each chapter includes a short story at the beginning to improve the student's reading comprehension and proficiency. Immediately after each story the important phrases or words are translated and explained.
As the student progresses through the book, important reminders about the Spanish language are listed in a separate section. These reminders cover not only the things one needs to remember about what is learned, but also pitfalls that need to be avoided. Helpful hints are included in these sections that will save the student many hours of figuring out basic concepts of intermediate Spanish.
At the end of each chapter is a summary describing the least you should know upon completing the chapter. Within this summary the most important topics of each chapter are listed. These summaries provide milestones for the student to compare his progress against the goals of each chapter.
Although there is quite a bit of cultural information interspersed between language topics, the short stories and helpful reminders make this book helpful for progressing beyond beginner's Spanish. The text is well written and stays on course, and the many helpful hints about learning the language add to the value of this course for the reader.
